Holidays can bring up intense emotional reactions for everyone. Even the most grounded and balanced people can find themselves to be overly emotional around this time of year. As we move further into the Holiday Season this week, don’t let your emotions spin you out of control. Allow your mind to lend a helping hand in staying grounded and at peace. It’s okay to feel sad, upset, angry, or lonely but don’t allow it to run your life. Don’t allow it to define you.
How do you go about doing this? Gratitude. Being thankful for what you have in your life, not what you don’t. Focus on all the good things happening to you.
Start a gratitude list this week and add items to it every day. You may only have one or two things when you first start, but as the week progresses you’ll start to see more and more things you are grateful for. Keep the list where you can see it. The energy surrounding you will shift and you’ll start to attract more and more things to be grateful for. And remember, it can be simple things like being grateful that you have coffee to drink or that you haven’t run out of toilet paper. It can also be big things, like being grateful for your partner or your dog--but it doesn’t have to be. Gratitude is gratitude, however you look at it.
